After losing his beloved cat a year ago, man finds a stray orange kitty who feels like one final gift from his old boy

The Cat Distribution System apparently knew exactly where Thomas needed to go, even if it took him a few days to accept the delivery.

A little over a month ago, his future pawrent's wife was walking their dog when the pup ran over to investigate a wood pile. Hidden inside was a young cat who initially looked injured. Thankfully, he could stand, happily accepted some pets, and was very interested in the food she offered him.

She found him again the next day and attempted to bring him home, but Thomas wasn't quite ready. He basically said thanks for dinner, but we're not there yet.

A couple of days later, the humans came home from walking their dogs and found him waiting by their building. More food and water came out, and this time the little guy started rubbing against his future cat dad and letting him pet him. Eventually, he was scooped up and brought inside.

Thomas spent his first three hours hiding behind the toilet, which seems fair considering he had just gone from wood pile resident to house cat. His new pawrents noticed mosquito bites around his ears and found around 13 fleas, so a vet appointment quickly followed.

At the vet, Thomas got vaccinated and scanned for a microchip. He had one, but it had never been registered, so his new pawrent registered it himself. Thomas was officially home.

Even sweeter, Thomas was born around the same time his new cat dad lost his previous beloved boy. On Thomas' first night roaming the house, he climbed into bed and curled up right beside him. He's even picked up several habits that remind his pawrent of the cat he lost.

Now just over a year old, Thomas has a clean bill of health, his boosters, a feline brother he gets along with, and a forever family.

  • It really sounds like your old cat might have had a paw in sending Thomas your way. The timing, the similar little habits, and Thomas choosing to curl up beside you on his very first night all feel extra special. Losing a beloved cat leaves such a huge space behind, and while no kitty could ever replace them, sometimes another one comes along and brings a different kind of comfort. Maybe your old boy knew you still had plenty of love left to give.

  • Some orange cats spend their whole lives waiting patiently for their turn with the shared brain cell, but every once in a while, one of them actually gets it. Thomas might just be one of the lucky ones! He figured out exactly which building to return to, picked out the right hoomans, and successfully worked his way from outdoor kitty to spoiled house cat. That sounds pretty smart to us. Maybe the orange cat brain cell isn’t a myth after all. It’s just very selectively distributed.
